July Coffee of the Month: Milky Weights

TFW your weights are shmoovin’, the stars have aligned and all things are in perfect harmony — plus flavors of steamed milk, cashews and milk chocolate. That’s July’s Coffee of the Month, and it’s as smooth as a cold Yoohoo on a hot day.

Flavor Notes: milk chocolate, rum, cashew, plum, steamed milk

Roast: Light

Body: Mild

Here are the 4 beans, 3 Arabica and 1 Robusta, that make up this blend:

  1. Mexican Chiapas Arabica: from family owned farms organized around the Grupo de Asesores de Producción Orgánica y Sustentables (GRAPOS), a farmers group operating in the municipalities of Unión Juárez, Cacahoatan, and Tapachula located within the state of Chiapas, Mexico. GRAPOS has invested in nurseries to support farm renovation, and diversification initiatives including a women’s knitting program and mushroom cultivation project aimed at creating other sources of income. This bean contributes the plum and steamed milk flavors, straight from the environment in the Chiapas.
  2. Costa Rican Arabica from the Hacienda La Amistad in Costa Rica: Our tried-and-true Costa Rican Arabica that we just can’t get enough of. It adds depth and nutty, caramel-y flavors that make any blend smooth and full of flavor.
  3. Indian Cherry Robusta: from Wayanad Social Service Society collective in the Western Ghats Mountains of India. We use this Robusta specifically for the higher caffeine content, and this one has our favorite flavor of any Robusta we’ve tried.
  4. Papua New Guinea Arabica: from farms organized around the Siane Organic Agriculture Cooperative (SOAC) located in the Chuave district within the province of Chimbu, Papua New Guinea. SOAC accesses the international coffee markets for farmers, creating greater earning capacity from direct trade relationships. SOAC also assist farmers with financing, coffee quality improvement, organic certification, and community based projects that promote gender equality and education. It adds a brightness and lightness to the blend that makes it refreshing, and it’s delish.

And one of the best parts about all these beans? They’re all organic! (Just like ALL of our beans.) And locally-sourced from small collectives that help the farms produce the highest quality coffee in the most ethical, eco-friendly ways possible. So by buying our coffee, you’re helping support these farms and the local families who work hard to provide them.
